2011 Crowe Bursary Awarded

The Awards Committee for the Frederick E. Crowe Bursary announces that the 2011 Bursary has been awarded to Mr. Daniel De Haan, a younger Lonergan scholar who is a doctoral student in philosophy at the Center for Thomistic Studies, University of St. Thomas, in Houston, Texas, U.S.A.

The Frederick E. Crowe Bursary

This annual bursary has been established by the Lonergan Research Institute at Regis College in honor of Frederick E. Crowe, S.J. Father Crowe’s lifetime of loving labor on and for the ideas of Bernard Lonergan includes his establishment of the Toronto Lonergan Centre, the predecessor of the Lonergan Research Institute, in 1971.

Professor Jeremy Wilkins Appointed LRI Director

The Lonergan Research Institute Board of Trustees is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Jeremy D. Wilkins as the new Director of the Lonergan Research Institute, effective July 2nd, 2012. The Board thanked the current Director Gordon Rixon, S.J. and Associate Director Michael Vertin for their years of capable transitional service, which will continue for the coming year until Professor Wilkins assumes his new role.

Father Lonergan on Insight into Linguistic Symbols

The attached transcript (99100DTE080) is an excerpt of a 1981 conversation between Bernard Lonergan and Luis Morfin, in which Father Lonergan discusses insight into linguistic symbols. The audio file (99100A0E080) is available on the Marquette Lonergan wesbite but not here due to a technical limitation pertaining to the size of the file.

Dr. Charlotte Tansey Memorial

On August 30th, 2010, family and friends gathered at St. Gabriel's Church in Pointe Saint Charles, Montreal, to celebrate the life of Dr. Charlotte Tansey. The Scripture readings, homily offered By Father Michael Czerny, S.J. and Charlotte's own translation of Psalm 22 (23) are appended below. Let us remember Charlotte's family in your prayers.

LRI Board Announces Expansion of Community of Affiliated Scholars

The Board of Directors of the Lonergan Research Institute is pleased to announce the expansion of the community of scholars affiliated with the Institute. In total, 22 scholars have been appointed as research, associate and junior scholars. Research scholars are Lonergan specialists. Associate scholars are colleagues at the Toronto School of Theology and the University of Toronto who share the same great philosophical and theological questions that motivated Lonergan's work. Junior scholars are doctoral students specializing in Lonergan Studies or allied fields.

Congratulations to Dr. Karen Petersen Finch of the Faculty of the School of Professional Studies, Gonzaga University

Gonzaga University student Karen Petersen Finch has successfully defended a dissertation entitled "Knowledge That Divides: Reformed-Catholic Dialogue and the Challenge of Epistemology," which was prepared under the supervision of Michael Stebbins.
